There are so many people who have a gardening space that is shady. They don’t want to grow just lobelias and balsams there, but something productive and edible. Generally you can’t grow plants that bear fruits in shade as they need high amount of sunlight. Your options are defined. You can only grow green leafy vegetables. Your choice is lettuce, Asian greens, spinach, mustard, peas. Lettuce is a productive crop that grows up quickly, best option for a shady place as it needs cool surroundings and partial sun. Bok Choy, Mizuna or Tatsoi need loamy and moist soil, in spring and in fall they should be in a space which receives morning sun. Spinach is a must grow crop, it loves slightly acidic and moist soil and do well in three hours of sunlight. Mustard needs regular watering and at least four hours of sunlight. Enjoy!
